The 5 GEO strategies, step by step
1. Publish machine-readable product facts
AI assistants cite stores whose product facts are clear and structured. Every product page should state price, stock, variants, shipping, returns and key specifications in plain text and in Product and Offer schema, so tools can quote them without guessing.
Image-only product pages give a model nothing to quote. Write specifications as text, keep schema prices identical to the visible price, and include identifiers such as brand, SKU and GTIN where you have them. Sending the same data to Google Merchant Center keeps Google's shopping surfaces in sync.
Checklist
- Add Product and Offer schema with price, currency (INR), availability and return policy.
- Write a text specification list: size, material, compatibility, care, warranty.
- Publish shipping times and costs by region, plus a clear returns page.
- Sync products to Google Merchant Center and fix disapproved items.
- Re-test pages in Google's Rich Results Test after every theme change.
Measure it with: Rich Results Test pass rate
2. Keep one consistent brand entity everywhere
AI tools trust brands whose facts match across the web. Use the same name, address, phone, founding year and description on your site, Google Business Profile, marketplaces, social profiles and directories, and connect them with Organization schema.
When one directory gives a different founding year or address, models hedge or skip you. Choose facts you can prove and repeat them everywhere; an About page with founders, address and policies gives assistants one authoritative source.
Checklist
- Write a one-paragraph brand description and reuse it everywhere.
- Add Organization schema with logo, address, contact details and sameAs links.
- Correct listings on Google Business Profile, marketplace storefronts, LinkedIn and directories.
- Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity “Who is [brand]?” monthly and log errors.
- Fix the source pages that feed wrong facts.
Measure it with: Accuracy of AI answers to “Who is [brand]?”
3. Write answer-first buying guides
Shoppers ask assistants questions such as “best running shoes for flat feet under ₹5,000”. Stores that publish clear buying guides, size guides and honest comparisons give AI tools passages they can quote and link.
Open each guide with a two-sentence answer that includes numbers, then explain. Use question headings, short paragraphs and comparison tables, and link each guide to the matching collection and products.
Checklist
- List 20 questions customers ask before buying (support tickets, WhatsApp, reviews).
- Write one guide per question cluster with a 40–60 word answer at the top.
- Add a comparison table wherever products differ on numbers.
- Add an FAQ block with FAQPage schema that matches the visible text.
- Refresh guides quarterly and update dateModified.
Measure it with: GA4 sessions from AI referrers
4. Earn third-party proof AI tools trust
AI assistants lean on what others say about a store. Genuine reviews, press mentions, marketplace ratings and listings on respected sites give models independent evidence to cite.
Ask every customer for a review and reply to all of them. Share useful data or guides with publications in your category. Never buy reviews or mark up ratings you did not collect — it breaks trust with platforms and models alike.
Checklist
- Send a review request after delivery with a direct Google review link.
- Show genuine on-page reviews, with Review schema only for reviews you collected.
- Get honestly listed in relevant category directories.
- Share one original insight per quarter (survey, sizing data, trend) with press.
- Set brand-mention alerts and correct wrong facts at the source.
Measure it with: Monthly new reviews and brand mentions
5. Let AI crawlers reach fast, readable pages
An AI tool cannot cite what it cannot fetch. Allow search and AI crawlers in robots.txt, serve key content in the HTML rather than only through JavaScript, register with Bing Webmaster Tools, and keep pages fast.
Microsoft Copilot is built on Bing, so Bing indexing matters for AI visibility as well as Bing search. Check that your CDN or firewall does not block verified bots. An llms.txt file is optional and still an emerging convention.
Checklist
- Review robots.txt access for Googlebot, Bingbot, OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot.
- Verify the site in Bing Webmaster Tools and submit the sitemap.
- Allow verified bots in your CDN or firewall.
- View page source to confirm product text and prices are in the HTML.
- Meet Core Web Vitals: LCP ≤ 2.5 s, INP ≤ 200 ms, CLS ≤ 0.1.
Measure it with: Indexed pages and crawl errors
